Architecture

Brodie Architecture and Design:

Steve Brodie, Architect: Steve has worked in architectural firms designing residential, commercial and public structures in Northern California since 1976, and has been a registered architect since 1982. In addition to his design experience, Steve has also worked as a carpenter on his own projects and for others. In 1985 Steve established an independent practice specializing in residential design, located in Nevada City, California.

Linda Brodie, Designer: Linda joined Steve as a design partner shortly after he started his own practice. In 1990, as the 3-dimensional CAD system (Computer Aided Drafting), began to replace the drafting staff, office and home were were moved to the Sonoma/Mendocino coast. Now, a 2-person firm, their primary practice is local, but they still enjoy occasional projects out of the area.

Frank/Architects:

Frank/Architects, founded in 1993, has two offices: a main location in Oakland, California and a satellite space which serves as a project office for the custom house work in The Sea Ranch. In addition to their work in the greater Bay Area, Frank/Architects has done projects throughout California, in the Czech Republic, and on the East Coast, alone or in cooperation with other architectural firms.

Malcolm Davis Architecture:

Malcolm Davis is a Bay Area native with an intimate understanding of its regional building styles and climates. Educated at UC Berkeley, his strong appreciation of the craft of building goes hand in hand with thoughtful stewardship of resources. He takes pride in creative problem solving through simple, elegant solutions. Employing a timeless vocabulary and a restrained palette, Malcolm’s projects over the last 20 years have earned multiple awards from the American Institute of Architects and publication in Dwell, Elle Decor, Sunset Magazine, California Home & Design, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Studio Bergtraun:

Established in 1988, Studio Bergtraun studio enjoys working in all aspects of architecture. The firm portfolio includes a varied typology of projects each informing the other, smaller projects with larger intentions and bigger projects with personal attention to detail. The scope of work in the studio ranges from residential new construction and remodels to commercial and institutional, including religious buildings, summer camps, retail and offices.

Steven Steinberg Architecture:

Having practiced Architecture in New York and Arizona, Steven Steinberg moved his family in 2008 to the Bay Area to work for a 108 year old firm in the East Bay. Steven and his family happened upon The Sea Ranch at a company retreat, having also studied the concept in architectural school. Steven and his partner Beth, fell in love with The Sea Ranch, its history, its design ethos and especially its incredible beauty and wildlife. Working next full time in San Francisco for an international firm, Steven decided to make The Sea Ranch his weekend home and future full time residence, as well as future private practice, specializing in residential and select commercial projects. Mr. Steinberg started his career doing residential renovations, remodeling and new projects from the ground up. At The Sea Ranch, Steven immersed himself in the renovation of his personal residence first, then servicing a medical center’s future needs in Gualala and in providing quality design services to residents of The Sea Ranch and surrounding local communities. Steven Steinberg Architecture’s mission is to provide personal service to discerning clients and to create memorable and meaningful architecture for residential and select commercial clientele.

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop:

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop is an award-winning architecture firm, led by principals Mary Griffin FAIA, Eric Haesloop FAIA and Stefan Hastrup AIA from their San Francisco office.

They believe architecture is primarily concerned with establishing a “sense of place,” inspired by the uniqueness of each site and each client. Since the concept for each of their buildings is rooted in its environment, they are particularly attentive to topography, microclimate, vegetation and solar orientation. They listen carefully to the aspirations and requirements of their clients.

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop are a woman-owned business renowned for sustainable, site sensitive design of houses as well as wineries, churches, libraries and independent schools. Their work also includes campus planning, adaptive reuse and historic renovations. An integral part of their practice is interior design, headed by Margaret Turnbull Simon ASID.

The Sea Ranch Association:

The Sea Ranch is a community of private homes, sited with careful attention to the natural landscape along a 10-mile stretch of the Sonoma County coast in Northern California. Empire Contracting, Inc has built and/or remodeled many Sea Ranch homes.

Gualala, CA:

Gualala, pronounced “wha-la-la,” sits between the Gualala River, at the southern border of Mendocino County, and the tiny community of Point Arena. Gualala’s name—given by the Pomo Indians who lived in the area until the 1800s—means “water coming down place.” With a rich logging history, the town’s main industry became tourism after logging declined in the 1960s.

Sea Ranch Photography:

For over 25 years, Bill Oxford of Sea Ranch Photography has created advertising and branding campaigns for hundreds of national and international corporations including SONY, AT&T, Eastman Kodak, IBM and NCR. In 2010 he longed for a simpler life and began shooting stock photography for iStock/Getty Images, the largest stock photography agency in the world. Success came quickly and in 2014 Bill retired to The Sea Ranch in northern California where he purchased a home nestled in the redwoods overlooking the ocean. The beauty of the area was inspirational and Bill has become passionate in his photographic pursuit of capturing the magnificence of The Sea Ranch while continuing to shoot stock photography and videos.
