New Home on the Northern Bluff

New Home on the Northern Bluff

We just completed this stunning home on the Northern bluff of Sea Ranch. Steve and Linda Brodie did a great job on the design, combining traditional beam and decking ceiling contrasted with clean and simple sheetrock walls and finishes. The home is clad in Boral siding, an impressive new material for Sea Ranch. It is a composite that cuts and handles like wood, but promises to outlive a real wood product many times over. Once installed, the Boral is carefully stained to blend in with surrounding homes. The windows are Milgard, with Fleetwood sliding glass doors. A board formed view deck is capped with an IPE bench with expansive ocean views.

A covered breezeway connects the House to the Garage. Inside, the central feature is an open stairway, with bamboo treads, and a stainless steel cable railing system. A floor to ceiling library with rolling ladder is at the base of the stairway. Stained concrete floors contrast nicely with the white walls and light toned cabinets, countertops, and tile. The linear fireplace surround is custom cast concrete, with the TV concealed behind sliding bamboo doors above. This home eschews more conventional heating systems, and instead uses passive solar gain to heat the concrete floors, augmented with three gas fireplaces for those very chilly days. The Owners of this home were a pleasure to work with, and very engaged with the process from beginning to end. Since they are now here full time, I often see them at the Supermarket, and it brings me great pride and pleasure to hear how much they are enjoying their home!
